Annoucements and Updates

Announcements – June 13, 2010

Please join us downstairs after this service for our Closing Sunday potluck picnic even if you were not able to bring an item to share. There is always enough food, along with excellent conversation, and we would love your company.

The meditation group, led by our minister Maddie Sifantus or Joe Cresta, will meet downstairs today at 5:00 p.m.  This is a weekly event with no charge, and all are welcome.

Maddie will be holding her regular office hours this week on Wednesday from 11:00 to 3:00.

(Announcer – check to see if there is a summer hiatus) The monthly LGBT Discussion Group will take place this Wednesday June 16 at 7:00 p.m. This group is open to all lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender adults and meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

You will find information about events and ongoing activities happening this summer on the back of today’s special Order of Service, including our hosting of the Breast Cancer Diaries film next Sunday and our weekly walk and breakfast, meditation, and Rise Up Singing.

Regular Sunday services will resume on Sunday September 12 with our Opening Sunday Flower Communion Service. We look forward to seeing you there!

From the Order of Service:

The meditation group, led by our minister Maddie Sifantus, will meet downstairs today at 5:00 p.m.  This is a weekly event with no charge, and all are welcome.

Some of the “good” fleas left over from the April church flea market were kept after the flea market for a yard sale. Tracy and Janine are holding the yard sale at Tracy’s on this coming Saturday morning, June 12. If you have a few “good” items to contribute, please bring them by between 7:30-8:30am or the night before (contact Tracy to arrange). If you think the item(s) may be questionable, please call Janine first. Also, if you want to help with setup or cleanup, come by between 7:30-8:30am or 12-1pm. Of course, come and say “Hi” if you are in the neighborhood. Tracy lives at 36 Church Street in Wakefield.

We also need volunteers to help Maddie at the table we will have at the Festival by the Lake from 10-4:00 on the same day, June 12.  Please contact Maddie if you can spend a hour or two with her at the Festival.

Sunday June 13 is closing Sunday, our last service until September.  We will hold our traditional flower communion and also be officially welcoming some new church members that week. And, start thinking about what to bring to our annual church picnic that will take place after the service on closing Sunday!  We hope everyone can join us.

Our church is hosting a collaborative fundraising event for Breast Cancer between our congregation and members of the larger community featuring the documentary film the Breast Cancer Diaries and a follow-up discussion.  This event will take place on Saturday June 19 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 if purchased ahead of time and $25 at the door.  See Sheila Moran or Maddie Sifantus to purchase tickets.

Our choir always welcomes new members and anyone interested is invited to attend choir practice with no obligation to sing on Sundays.  During the church year, the choir practices on Tuesday nights, here in the sanctuary, from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. and will be meeting this Tuesday.  Starting next week, the choir will switch to Mondays for the summer. Check with a choir member for the actual schedule because they will be taking some weeks off.

Maddie will be holding her regular office hours this week on Wednesday from 11:00 to 3:00.
It is also “Soup with the Minister” day.  All are welcome to come at around 11:30 a.m. to share soup and good conversation.  Feel free to bring bread, a side dish, or dessert if you are able.
