Back by popular demand, the Standing Room Only concert team is again offering A Candlelight Christmas on Sunday, December 17 at 3pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 326 Main Street, Wakefield, MA. Wakefield’s favorite tenor, Joseph Holmes, is joining celebrated soprano Rachele Schmiege and The New England Tenors for SRO’s signature mix of classical, religious, seasonal, and popular Christmas masterpieces. In addition to the new time of 3pm, this year’s Candlelight Christmas concert offers a complementary spread of holiday goodies at intermission.
With performances throughout New England in its seven years, The New England Tenors features artistic director and founder John Middleton-Cox, Irish tenor Damien Corcoran, and operatic divo Stefan Barner. Soprano Rachele Schmiege’s “illuminating, velvet tone” is in demand in the Boston area and throughout the United States. Proud WHS grad Joseph Holmes continues to amaze audiences locally, nationally, and internationally.
The New England Tenors’ instrumentalists including the ‘fourth voice’, violinist Peter Stickel, pianist Wayne Ward, and percussionist Pat Hanafin. Mr. Ward is a professor at Berklee College of Music and the long-time accompanist of the Longwood Opera.
Repertoire for A Candlelight Christmas includes traditional carols, such as Lo, How a Rose and Coventry Carol, arias from Handel’s Messiah, the Lord’s Prayer and Gesu Bambino, and contemporary hits of the season, Believe, You Raise Me Up, All is Well (featuring Mr. Holmes), and The Prayer, as well as a sing-along. A special arrangement of The Little Drummer Boy highlights the talents of Pat Hanafin before the evening ends with a spectacular arrangement of Let There Be Peace on Earth.
A Candlelight Christmas is produced and promoted by Peter Stickel; the hall is designed, constructed and managed by Elizabeth and Matthew Lowry; and the Front of the House is administered by Joe Cresta. Join us for a Christmas celebration for all ages and appetites.
